I'm Off to the Jeonju International Film Festival!
I'm headed to South Korea's Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF) from Wednesday morning, May 4, through Saturday night, May 7. I have 12 films on the schedule and I'll have reviews and reports for Gruesome Magazine, Phantom of the Movies' VideoScope, and Horror News Radio in the very near future. I'll update my Twitter page @JosephWPerryJWP when I can during the festival so keep an eye out for that!
I Have Two Articles in the Debut Issue of "SQ Horror Magazine"
Check out the debut issue of "SQ Horror Magazine," which features two articles by yours truly: a review of the fantastic "Afterlife with Archie" comics series and a look at 1980s-themed horror toys from the past and present. There are loads of other great articles, too, including a film review by my son, Cohen Perry. You can order print or digital issues at http://www.magcloud.com/browse/issue/1101422?__r=633389&s=w
My "Horror News Radio" Podcast Appearance About Scream Queen Filmfest Tokyo's Nagoya Tour Stop Is Live
Host Doc Rotten and I discuss the Scream Queen Filmfest Tokyo's Nagoya tour stop, which I attended, on a special edition of the Horror News Radio podcast. There are two ways that you can listen to it: (1) Download the free Horror News Radio app on your smartphone (horrornewsradio.com/app/) or (2) become a Grue-Believer by becoming a Patreon member for Gruesome Magazine at https://www.patreon.com/gruesomemagazine?ty=h. Thanks!

My "Green Room" and "Convergence" Reviews from BIFF Appear in "VideoScope" Magazine
In Phantom of the Movies' VideoScope magazine's Winter 2016 issue (#97), I review two films that I saw as part of South Korea's Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) last October. Jeremy Saulnier's sophomore effort Green Room is a thrilling follow-up to his Blue Ruin debut, while Drew Hall's Convergence is a horror/thriller hybrid with lofty goals. Look for VideoScope on newsstands near you or order it through the magazine's official website, videoscopemag.com.

Catching Up!
It's been far too long since my last update because I have been so swamped with writing reviews and articles that I haven't had time to check in here! Since my previous update, I attended the Scream Queen Film Festival Tokyo (SQFFT) tour stop in Nagoya in February, and you will find my Gruesome Magazine reviews of many of the short horror films I saw there at http://gruesomemagazine.com/author/josephperry/. Doc Rotten, host of the Horror News Radio podcast and editor-in-chief of Gruesome Magazine, recorded a podcast with me last week about SQFFT which should go live very soon. I'll update when it is released. I also wrote two articles for SQ Horror Magazine; that issue is scheduled for publication on May 1. Again, I'll update here when it hits the streets. More soon! Thanks for checking in!

Gruesome Magazine Update: My Top 10 Favorite and 6 Least Favorite Horror Films of 2015
![]() |
Bruce McDonald's fever-dream Halloween horror shocker Hellions is probably the most divisive film on my Top 10 list. |
It's the last day of 2015 here in South Korea; what better way to ring out the old year and bring in the new than to check out my thoughts on the horror films I loved most this year and the ones that left me unimpressed? Actually you probably have many better ways but if you have time to squeeze in for reading my Gruesome Magazine articles, I would greatly appreciate it!
My personal cream of the crop can be found at http://gruesomemagazine.com/2015/12/28/joseph-perrys-top-10-horror-films-2015/
and the ones that I don't recommend are at http://gruesomemagazine.com/2015/12/22/title-tk/
Happy new year, everyone! Best wishes to you all for a wonderful 2016.
